What Iris will be doing in August I've just returned from a lovely week in Caerleon conference centre, the days were sunny and in the evening the wine was flowing. My chap Peter drove up to the conference for the last evening and we listened to the male voice choir giving us their best. Now I'm back home I've attended a few signing sessions at various bookshope and tomorrow, Monday, I'll be back at my computer working out my new book aabout the old days of goldmining in Wales. These were rugged days when a candle was worth half a week's wages to a miner and on the opening pages we meet Seren ( Welsh for Star) the beuautiful girl who falls in love with a man to whom marriage is forbidden. I hope to receive some messages from you all soon, Love from, Iris Gower
In June I was invited to write a short story for The Big Issue and I finished it yesterday 1s July. I've called it 'In The Picture' and I expect it will be published in a few month's time. A party was held on Thursday 28 June for me by my publishers Tranworld, at Sketty Hall a lovely 1850's building with gorgeous gardens. Friends and relatives came to wish my new books, Act of Love about a real musichall building called the Palace that still exists in Swansea but is so run down by now it is likely to be demolished. The latest book Bargain Bride describes the life of a young woman teaching the children of the poor and willing to give anything to keep the school running. She makes a bargain with a local rich man and married him both are marrying not for love but for expediency. This month July I have two lovely gatherings to attend one at Swansea University where I am an hononrary fellow and once at Swansea Institue where I am also a fellow. I get to walk down the isle of the Brangwen Hall amongst all the Dons of both Universities and sit on the platform with the other dignitaries. At my last year's attendance I wore a lovely pair of shoes that cost me all of 2.99 in Tesco's! No one could see them because of my gown but o n a hot day weren't those shoes comfortable. At the end of July I am speaking at a 'Writer's Holiday' Conference at Caerleon College Nr Newport in Wales. I't in lovely grounds and the food is gorgeous! I will do a special message tomorrow giving, with the organisers agreement dates and prices etc. My love life is blooming. Some of you will know that I lost my dear husband five years ago and then two years ago I met Peter who fed me, cared for me and fell in love with me. I fell inlove with him too and two years on we are still devoted to each other. His mum is not well at the moment so he's leaving me for a week or two to visit her. I shall be desolate AND hungry because he feeds me every day! ! What a man! This is my first blog and my first venture into the world of websitedom. It was set up yesterday and I have already had two messages and look forward to many more. Any reader wanting to email my new email address my apologies I don't yet know how to work that part of the site. Take care all of you and keep me company while Peter is away by getting in touch. Love to you all. Iris Iris Gower |
